Why does the Moon have so many craters?
Nothing erases them: no air, no water, no weather and almost no geology to wear them away.
Earth has been hit just as often, but wind, rain, oceans and moving plates have wiped almost every crater away. On the Moon, a crater from billions of years ago still looks sharp.
The footprints left by the Apollo astronauts will likely last millions of years for the same reason.
