Is the far side of the Moon dark?
No — it gets just as much sunlight. It is only 'far' because it always faces away from Earth.
When we see a new Moon, the far side is in full daylight. People sometimes call it the dark side, meaning unknown: nobody saw it until the Soviet Luna 3 photographed it in 1959.
It looks different too: almost no dark lava 'seas', and far more craters, because its crust is thicker.
