Polaris
The North Star — the sky seems to turn around it.
Polaris isn't very bright, but it sits almost exactly above Earth's north pole, so it barely moves while everything else circles it. Its height above your horizon equals your latitude.
Find it by following the two end stars of the Big Dipper's bowl.
